R&D tax relief specialists: what firms charge to handle it
An R&D specialist is a firm that does nothing but claim research and development relief, as against an accountant who does it alongside everything else. The specialists are the ones with a published fee at all: of the ten UK firms in this record, the three that print a price are all specialists, and the general practices and the largest advisers print nothing. Each firm below is linked to its own live page, with whatever that page says about what the work costs and the date it was read.

Choosing an R&D specialist
Read the minimum before the percentage. Every firm here that prints a rate also prints a floor, and on a small benefit the floor is the whole price: the published minimums run from £1,495 + VAT to £5,000, which on a £20,000 benefit is a difference far larger than the gap between a 5% and a 15% rate.
Ask when the fee falls due. Two of the three published schemes are success fees payable only when HMRC releases the claim, and one of the firms says so in terms. That is a different risk to the company than a fee invoiced on submission.
Ask whether the fee covers an HMRC enquiry. Enquiry rates on R&D claims are high enough that defending one is a real cost, and whether it sits inside the fee or outside it is rarely on the pricing page.
From 18 May 2026 anyone who interacts with HMRC on a client's tax affairs must be registered with HMRC, and the definition reaches R&D advisers directly. Ask any firm you are considering whether it is registered.
A firm that will not print a fee is not for that reason worse. It is a firm you cannot compare without asking, which is what this record is for and what the enquiry form on this site does in one message rather than four calls.
